SmartLynx Australia and Whitehaven Coal Introduce Community Flights Between Cairns and Moranbah
SmartLynx Australia, in partnership with Whitehaven Coal, has opened part of its charter services to the public, providing new travel opportunities for the Moranbah community. From today, Monday, 22 September 2025, ten seats on selected services between Cairns and Moranbah are available for community members at a fare of $299 each way.
Moranbah, located in Queensland’s Isaac Region, is recognised as one of the key centres of the Bowen Basin. While best known for its contribution to Australia’s coal industry, the town is also home to a strong and resilient community. The introduction of these community flights reflects a shared commitment by SmartLynx Australia and Whitehaven Coal to improve accessibility and provide affordable travel options for local residents.
Whitehaven Coal has long been an integral part of regional Australia, with a focus on both industry leadership and community support. Partnering with SmartLynx Australia to reserve community seats on existing charter flights is a practical step towards making regional connectivity more accessible and ensuring that residents benefit directly from increased travel opportunities.

• Moranbah – Cairns: departs 19:45, arrives 21:30 - Tuesday
• Moranbah – Cairns: departs 07:50, arrives 09:35
• Cairns – Moranbah: departs 10:05, arrives 11:50

Community seats can be reserved directly through the SmartLynx Australia booking platform. As only ten seats are available per service, early bookings are recommended.
